Occupants of Plumsted are now being forced to muzzle their Pit Bulls if they go out at all times IF the animal control officer has his way. Their have been “too many” bites that this animal control officer feels the need that he wants to have ALL pit bulls (aggressive or not) to wear muzzles when they go out and even in their own yards. This officer is not doing anyone a favor like he thinks he is. He thinks by muzzling only and all the pit bulls, the bites and attacks will reduce. This animal control officer is supposed to be educated about animals and clearly is not. Instead of muzzling every single pit bull he should investigate how these dogs were raised, what the owners are like, if these pit bulls have been neutered, vaccinated, trained (that’s a big one) or poorly bred and if they were provoked at all! Their are so many simple solutions that this officer should have and still do instead of muzzling every dog, because that’s not fair, especially if the pit bull isn’t aggressive at all.

All pit bulls need respect and love. There are so many that are frowned upon and unloved because of biased media and their breed. So many pit bulls do great things for the world like: search and rescue dogs, “nanny dogs”, and overall great family members. They deserve a little more credit than what they have been given. I think people should give them a chance and see for themselves instead of believing what they hear about them. I never judged a pit bull, I was never a hater before I became a lover. Its not fair to judge based on what you see on the outside or hear before giving it a chance yourself.

Alright, I guess the title of this post speaks for itself. Whenever I see or hear about a new BSL law being put in, it makes me angry. The senator of District 9, Bernalillo, Sue  Beffort. She is planning to ask the governor to introduce a legislation this January. It will be a “dangerous dog” law and under this “dangerous dog” law Pit Bull will be included and any that share the physical traits of a Pit Bull.

What can YOU do to stop this law?:

Email:  Sue.Beffort@nmlegis.gov

Call: Capitol phone:  (505) 986- 4395 Home:  (505) 292-7116

I WILL be sending a email to say that I oppose this horrible law! If you want to stop this act, then you should call or write and tell them you oppose this law too. One person can make a difference, and if you live in New Mexico and own a Pit Bull and you don’t want your family member to be euthanized because of its breed  then call or email! And even if you don’t live in New Mexico then you should still do it because you will be saving countless Pit Bulls from being killed. Save the breed!

I cant stress enough how important it is to spay and neuter your pet! During the winter months there are so many cats and dogs that don’t have a nice warm bed to go home to, and one of the reason for that is because people don’t have their animals fixed. When you have an animal that becomes pregnant and has a litter, you expect to find homes for all the puppies or kittens right? And you will probably find homes for all of the little ones, but most of them will just end up on the street once they grow up because they are no longer that cute kitten/puppy that you first got. That ins’t the only reason though. About 70,000 kittens and puppies are born everyday, and many dogs and cats are being euthanized because they are homeless.

Here is WHY you should spay and neuter:

1. It will reduce the chance of your dog or cat getting cancer.

2. Your dog or cat will likely be more affectionate and better behaved.

3. It decreases the homeless animal population.

4. It healthy for them! They will live longer and happier lives.

5. It reduces the number of fights, dog bites, and accidents.

6. They will be less aggressive.

7. You’ll save an animal from being euthanized.

Myths of spaying and neutering:

1. Spaying/ neutering changes their personality.

-That is false! Their personality wont change, but they will be a lot more affectionate and calm.

2. Spaying/neutering makes them lazy.

-This is false! Usually a dog or cat gets fat and lazy because its over fed and lack exercise.

3. My dog or cat should and has the right to experience sex.

-False! For your cat or dog, sex, is just the instinct to reproduce. All it is, is about reproduction to them.

To bring pit bulls into this, of course they should be spayed/ neutered too, but when people see an aggressive pit bull, the aggressiveness is most likely caused by them not being neutered because male pit bulls can become aggressive if they are not neutered, just like any other male dog! So save a life and spay and neuter your pets!

I get a lot of questions asking if it was true that Pit Bulls could just “snap” out of the blue. So, I decided to write about it!

So, Is it true that Pit Bulls can just “snap?” I hear a lot of people who say that and when i’m researching the internet I come across a lot of the question of Pit bulls snapping. Some people even seem to know what their talking about when they are trying to convince people the cause of their “snapping”. I know that people are convinced that its because of the breed, and that is of course false. I heard that its because they have a small skull and a large brain so, sometimes it causes the nerve’s to send pain throughout their skull, causing them to snap. That is also false! The only way they could just “snap” is if they are: A) Poorly bred  B) They were provoked  C) The owner did not see the warning signs  D) They were going after a small dog- they see as prey, which is a natural instinct  E) Not trained. There is ALWAYS a reason. So  I hope that clears up some misconceptions that you might have heard of have had about them! And keep the questions and requests coming!
