This stuff really gets my goat. Poor Pitbulls, constantly being discriminated against, rather than the owners. I am pleased to say that, here in South Africa, we don’t have any such laws – yet, that is!
Wow you’re lucky those laws don’t exist! And hopefully they never will, and hopefully all the laws against them will someday, not exist as well.
Stats should indicate what bred of dog is prone to more vicious attacks – with the worst outcome. Whatever bred of dog the stats say that is – the owners of those type of dogs should be regulated to carry extra liability insurance.
Obviously not all dogs of a certain bred are aggressive – but there needs to be protection for the innocent bystander. Based on the statical information available – laws should read, “if you choose to own a more aggressive bred of dog – those owners must step up to the plate and insure their pets in the event of a unforeseen attack on a person”.
We all carry fire and theft insurance for that very reason – protecting ourselves against unforseen events. Why not liability insurance for the more aggressive type of dogs??
I understand what you’re saying however dogs aren’t naturally aggressive. There isn’t one dog that is more aggressive or vicious than another, ANY dog can be vicious it just has to do with how they’re raised. And to the “unforeseen” attack, dogs don’t attack out of the blue, there are warning signs any dog shows and owners should take the time to educate themselves on their dogs behavior so they know when they’re stressed. If you don’t wanna see any more dog attacks, than certain dogs shouldn’t be put into the wrong hands where they can be raised carelessly.
