Animal control officers around the country have told the ASPCA that when they alert the media to a dog attack, the news outlets respond that they have no interest in reporting on the incident unless it involved a pit bull.

This didn’t completely surprise me but what did surprise me was that the news outlets were so upfront about it. I would expect them to be a little more discreet with this because of the unwanted attention they would most likely get from people like me and pit bull owners. I always knew the media was biased around pit bulls, its called “sensationalism.” It’s also partly the police and animal control officer’s fault because they don’t give the full story, they don’t say who the owners were, they don’t say why the pit bull escaped or why wasn’t it  in a secure place. Then at that point, people don’t care to find out the truth, they have already heard enough. Once, there was a Golden Retriever who killed its owner and it made the front page of a news paper, and a pit bull bit someone and it was all over the TV news. The media is adding to the misconceptions about pit bulls and giving them a name they don’t deserve.

Malden City Council has decided that a meeting will be held to discuss that every pit bull in the city should wear a muzzle out in public. This effort is followed by an attack last year that was on a 10 year old boy by a male pit bull that has escaped from the yard. That same dog previously had bitten another child 3 months before the attack on the 10 year old. The pit bull was euthanized. The city of Lynn requires pit bulls to wear muzzles and they also have separate registration requirements.

Well, another unfair law that’s come to another city. Fear and ignorance is part of the problem and biased media is another part. They think pit bulls are scary? What I find scary is irresponsible owners are allowed to own these dogs. I’m guessing the pit bull that they are basing this new law around was uneuterd and was obviously raised by somebody careless. Why should one breed suffer because of the owners?

Looking for a new story to blog about I always search for top news stories on Google, When I search up “pit bulls” only attacks, bites, and mauling’s, come up. Its never anything positive. But, when I search up Golden Retriever, nothing like attacks come up, just positive things. I even searched up “Golden Retriever attacks” and there was news on that, however the title of the story didn’t indicate it, whereas if I were to search up “pit bull attacks” then all the headlines would indicate it. All I searched up was “pit bulls” and the internet is flooded with news on recent attacks and bites. Its like all that people want to see is bad things about pit bulls to keep this image the media has and keeps creating. I hope one day, I don’t have to see all these negative things, and don’t have to search for the good things.

Dunn, North Carolina.

Police in Dunn say they have gotten many calls about aggressive pit bulls in the last year. Chief B.P Jones requested a city wide ban on the breed. There has been 44 calls about aggressive pit bulls, but no injuries. “But pit bulls are still a dangerous breed” Jones said. He plans on discussing his ban idea with the city counsel this weekend. ” The owners of the breed don’t take the necessary precautions to protect people from the dogs” Says Jones, he also said: “They treat pit bulls like any other dogs, but the pit bull dog is different from other dogs”

This police officer, Jones, is completely ignorant and uneducated. He thinks that this is a dog that is naturally aggressive and has been like that since they were bred. Which is, of course, untrue. People SHOULD treat pit bulls like any other dog because they are like any other dog! There is nothing different about a pit bull than any other dog. The only thing that’s different about pit bulls than any other dog, is their bad reputation, and the media has done a fantastic job of doing that (cue the sarcasm). Pit bulls shouldn’t be banned, irresponsible owners  should be! It isn’t the dogs fault, its the owners. That goes for poor breeding too, because its the owners who are breeding them that way.” The owners of the breed don’t take the necessary precautions to protect people from the dogs” What are the necessary precautions? That’s what I wanna know. All you need is to train, raise them properly, and provide unconditional love for your pit bull and you won’t run into these problems. Only if Jones would understand and educate himself, maybe he would think twice about a ban.

All pit bulls need respect and love. There are so many that are frowned upon and unloved because of biased media and their breed. So many pit bulls do great things for the world like: search and rescue dogs, “nanny dogs”, and overall great family members. They deserve a little more credit than what they have been given. I think people should give them a chance and see for themselves instead of believing what they hear about them. I never judged a pit bull, I was never a hater before I became a lover. Its not fair to judge based on what you see on the outside or hear before giving it a chance yourself.

This story really made me upset, and of course the media is presenting this story as a monster dog that’s out of control. I see people on twitter commenting about this story, saying that pit bulls and babies don’t mix. I couldn’t help but respond to these ignorant people. Clearly this dog had no training, or was poorly bred, (the parents passing down a genetic defect to the dog) or lack of socialization. And again, a pit bull isn’t born mean or vicious it all depends on socialization, how they’re bred, or how their raised, and they are absolutely no different than any other dog. I now hear people saying that you should be weary with a pit bull around a toddler, they don’t go out of their way to bite a toddler, they are great with kids and families! Pit bulls do not just “snap” either. People act like their this mutant dog that is different than any other breed, how untrue is that! These are the kinds of stories that are making the pit bulls go extinct.  Save the breed!

If i could change at least one persons mind about pit bulls, then that’s awesome. But if i could change the population of the world that doesn’t like them because of what the media portrays them to be then that would be amazing! But i know that it most likely wont happen. It really bothers me when people think they know the breed without even being around one, they just go by what the media says. And of course the media is wrong if they say that pits are vicious by nature and stuff leading around that. I’m someone that likes to prove people wrong, and show them what they think they know is wrong. I will fight for what i believe in and argue with people about it, i’m not afraid to do that, i am not afraid to fight for whats right. And i will fight for the pit bulls for the rest of my life. After the passing of my family’s beloved Siberian Husky, Chimo, we got another husky puppy and her name is Sadie. She is a red husky (not very popular) 4 months old, and she is full of energy! Even though my family have owned and still do own the husky breed, i will always have a special spot in my heart for pit bulls. But also Huskies and Pit bulls are the most surrendered dog in animal rescues and shelters, i don’t like that. So please, if you are looking for a pit bull or siberian husky, go to a shelter or rescue. You will most likely find one there.
