Animal control officers around the country have told the ASPCA that when they alert the media to a dog attack, the news outlets respond that they have no interest in reporting on the incident unless it involved a pit bull.

This didn’t completely surprise me but what did surprise me was that the news outlets were so upfront about it. I would expect them to be a little more discreet with this because of the unwanted attention they would most likely get from people like me and pit bull owners. I always knew the media was biased around pit bulls, its called “sensationalism.” It’s also partly the police and animal control officer’s fault because they don’t give the full story, they don’t say who the owners were, they don’t say why the pit bull escaped or why wasn’t it  in a secure place. Then at that point, people don’t care to find out the truth, they have already heard enough. Once, there was a Golden Retriever who killed its owner and it made the front page of a news paper, and a pit bull bit someone and it was all over the TV news. The media is adding to the misconceptions about pit bulls and giving them a name they don’t deserve.

A 6 year old Pit bull named Snoopy was impounded for fighting with another dog Tuesday January 17, 2012. The owner says Snoopy was not the aggressive one, and didn’t start the fight. “I was really upset” the 77 year old owner said. Snoopy was declared a dangerous dog back in 2007. In the City of Deltona many people, thousands of people are starting petitions and a Facebook group to save Snoopy from being put down. The other dog isn’t in any trouble and i’m guessing its not a pit bull and that’s why. Once again a innocent Pit bull is being blamed for another dogs wrong doing. Snoopy is on death row because its a Pit bull, and for fighting for the reason of self defense. In Deltona any Pit bull  (aggressive or not) has to be muzzled at all times even in their own yard, which is also a problem, Snoopy was not muzzled but that has nothing to do with it! It was the other dog who started the fight and that was aggressive, not snoopy. If you want to help to save a pit bulls life then Like the Facebook page!: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-Snoopy/277697138951174

YOU can make a difference and can help to save an innocent dogs life and reunite Snoopy with his owner! Keep your hope Bob Johnson (owner) and keep your tail wagging Snoopy!

Why do children seem to be the victims of most Pit bull attacks? I read so many news stories everyday about pit bull attacks and a lot of them are small kids being the victims of it. There is a lot of reasons like the dogs were trained to kill, attack, socialized, or not even trained, but also NEVER leave a dog alone with a child, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT BREED. I once read a story about a Pomeranian who killed a child while the owner left the dog alone with the child for just a few minutes. It should be common knowledge that you never leave a child alone with a dog. No matter what breed, shape or size, you just don’t. Pit bulls do make wonderful companions for family’s with children! Pits and children go great together, however please make sure you socialize your pit bull and train and raise it properly because its possible to run into these problems. EVERY dog should be raised and trained, no matter what the breed. I stress this because most people think that only the “tougher” breeds should be trained and sometimes people are careless with training.

I get a lot of questions asking if it was true that Pit Bulls could just “snap” out of the blue. So, I decided to write about it!

So, Is it true that Pit Bulls can just “snap?” I hear a lot of people who say that and when i’m researching the internet I come across a lot of the question of Pit bulls snapping. Some people even seem to know what their talking about when they are trying to convince people the cause of their “snapping”. I know that people are convinced that its because of the breed, and that is of course false. I heard that its because they have a small skull and a large brain so, sometimes it causes the nerve’s to send pain throughout their skull, causing them to snap. That is also false! The only way they could just “snap” is if they are: A) Poorly bred  B) They were provoked  C) The owner did not see the warning signs  D) They were going after a small dog- they see as prey, which is a natural instinct  E) Not trained. There is ALWAYS a reason. So  I hope that clears up some misconceptions that you might have heard of have had about them! And keep the questions and requests coming!

Not only do I like to blog about recent stories and other things, I also like sharing personal stories and experiences. Today I was talking to one of my friends about what she did on the weekend, we were talking and then she mentioned about how when she was hanging out with her friends, one of them hit their dog. I wanted her to tell me more about that because that was the only thing was really intrigued in hearing. She said that her friend hit his dog because it needs strict discipline because its a pit bull. Once I heard “pit bull” I was fully interested in what that was all about. She said that he took his dog outside to hit it because it was a pit bull and needed stricter discipline. I was completely sickened when I heard this. Because its a pit bull it needs strict punishment? I couldn’t wrap my head around this.

Does he think pit bulls don’t feel pain? Yeah, they may look tough and there are the myths out there that they don’t feel pain, but really? And people wonder why there are some pit bulls that are aggressive. No body should think “I need to punish my dog more strict then I would any other dog because its a pit bull” That’s just wrong! Why is it different for a pit bull, they are no different than other any dog. So we have to discipline them stricter and harder? To me, that just makes no sense, maybe it does to someone or to the people that have misconceptions about the breed. Education is a must for the Uneducated…
