8 year old pit bull named Lily pulled her 54 year old owner to safety from an oncoming train May 3rd. Christine Spain, Lily’s owner, was walking home from her boyfriends house when she then collapsed on to the train tracks. Christine Spain suffered no injuries, however Lily did. Lily fractured her pelvis and lost a leg to save her owner.

Lily was hit by the train to save her owners life, if that’s not loyalty then what is? This was a touching story that shows a pit bulls loyalty. “My hope is that this story is going to get out and show what pit bulls are truly about.” said Boston Police Officer David Lanteigne. Hes right, hopefully this does show people that pit bulls aren’t these mauling machines that they are portrayed to be. Lily helped Spain decrease her drinking problem and kept her sober, Spain is emotionally scarred from this said her son (Lanteigne). Lily is in critical care and it will cost thousands of dollars for Lily’s physical therapy but good people around the country are raising money for Lily and around $40,000 has already been donated.

Dunn, North Carolina.

Police in Dunn say they have gotten many calls about aggressive pit bulls in the last year. Chief B.P Jones requested a city wide ban on the breed. There has been 44 calls about aggressive pit bulls, but no injuries. “But pit bulls are still a dangerous breed” Jones said. He plans on discussing his ban idea with the city counsel this weekend. ” The owners of the breed don’t take the necessary precautions to protect people from the dogs” Says Jones, he also said: “They treat pit bulls like any other dogs, but the pit bull dog is different from other dogs”

This police officer, Jones, is completely ignorant and uneducated. He thinks that this is a dog that is naturally aggressive and has been like that since they were bred. Which is, of course, untrue. People SHOULD treat pit bulls like any other dog because they are like any other dog! There is nothing different about a pit bull than any other dog. The only thing that’s different about pit bulls than any other dog, is their bad reputation, and the media has done a fantastic job of doing that (cue the sarcasm). Pit bulls shouldn’t be banned, irresponsible owners  should be! It isn’t the dogs fault, its the owners. That goes for poor breeding too, because its the owners who are breeding them that way.” The owners of the breed don’t take the necessary precautions to protect people from the dogs” What are the necessary precautions? That’s what I wanna know. All you need is to train, raise them properly, and provide unconditional love for your pit bull and you won’t run into these problems. Only if Jones would understand and educate himself, maybe he would think twice about a ban.

So before the weekend I was walking my dog Sadie around our neighborhood and just as I was coming back I heard this ticking noise on the pavement and Sadie looked back I noticed because the leashed tugged and I then I looked back and noticed the dog, Dawson, down the street was charging at us with its teeth bared. He grabbed Sadie and swung her around full force, and took her off the ground with its teeth and started shaking her very hard. He was full on attacking my dog and I went into shock, I didn’t know what to do at all all I could do was scream at the top of my lungs and hope that someone would come out to help. Sadie was trying to fight back, but mind you she is still a 9 month old puppy and a lot smaller than Dawson. Dawson finally backed off and my neighbors came out and so did Dawson’s owners. They said that Dawson “plays” too aggressively. Yeah right, that was NOT playing. Dawson is this beautiful Malamute that got along great with Chimo, before Chimo died. But Sadie is the 3rd dog Dawson has attacked now. Luckily, Sadie wasn’t hurt too bad, she was in shock just as much as I was and her back paw nail was bleeding, but I’m I think that was just from the pavement. I don’t believe in hitting an animal but if i wasn’t so in shock I would have kicked or hit Dawson so hard.

Dawson is always chained up, never walked, and not properly socialized. This has nothing to do with breed, but how he is raised. I do not blame Dawson, I blame his stupid owners. Since Sadie is the 3rd dog Dawson has attacked, the local animal shelter (L.A.P.S) will be contacted because I don’t want to see another dog attacked by him. I wanted to share this story because It is so important that you train and raise your dogs properly! I can’t stress this enough. This is a perfect example of  good dog raised poorly. So please train and raise your dogs properly and don’t neglect their needs.
